LG Refrigerator FF E & IF E Error Code Repair
On LG French-door and side-by-side refrigerators, FF E means the freezer evaporator fan has failed and IF E means the ice room fan has failed. Both errors lead to warm food, melted ice, and a freezer that frosts over because cold air can't circulate. We carry the common LG fan motors and can usually finish the repair in one visit.

Common Causes
Why your LG Refrigerator is throwing FF E / IF E / FF / IF
Failed evaporator fan motor (FF E)
The DC fan motor seizes from ice contact or worn bearings. Once it stops, cold air can't reach the fridge section.
Ice fan motor failure (IF E)
The small fan that pushes cold air over the in-door ice maker burns out, especially on models with the icemaker in the door.
Ice buildup blocking the fan blade
A defrost system problem causes ice to grow around the fan, stalling it and triggering the error.
Bad defrost heater or thermistor
If the defrost cycle isn't melting frost properly, the fan jams and throws FF E even with a healthy fan motor.
Wiring harness damage
Pinched or chewed wires between the fan and the main board can mimic a failed fan.
Main control or inverter board fault
Less common, but the board that drives the DC fans can fail and report FF E / IF E with good fans installed.

How long can I keep using the fridge with an FF E error?+
Not long — food in the freezer will start thawing within hours and the fridge section will follow. Unplug the unit and call us so you don't lose groceries.
Will I lose the food in my freezer during the repair?+
Usually no. The fan replacement is fast enough that food stays frozen if you keep the door closed. We bring coolers for longer defrost-related repairs.
Are LG fridge fan repairs covered by the LG 10-year warranty?+
The 10-year LG warranty only covers the linear / inverter compressor — not the fans, defrost system, or labor. Most FF E and IF E repairs are out-of-warranty.
