Samsung Top-Load Washer UE & UB Error Code Repair
UE, UB and Ur all mean the same thing on a Samsung top-load washer: the machine sensed the tub going off-balance during the spin cycle and stopped to protect itself. Sometimes it really is a bunched-up comforter — but on Samsung high-efficiency top loaders, repeating UE / UB codes almost always point to worn suspension rods or a failed vibration sensor.
Symptoms
What you're probably seeing
- Washer fills and washes fine, then flashes UE or UB during spin
- Loud banging or thumping against the cabinet during the final spin
- Tub visibly tilted when you open the lid
- Cycle takes 2–3 hours because it keeps adding water to rebalance
- Clothes come out soaked because the spin never reaches full speed

Common Causes
Why your Samsung Top-Load Washing Machine is throwing UE / UB / Ur
Worn suspension rods (most common)
Samsung top loaders use 4 dampening rods. After 3–5 years they lose oil and let the tub bounce — every load throws UE or UB.
Bad vibration sensor (Halls sensor)
The sensor on top of the tub tells the board when the load is balanced. When it fails, even a balanced load triggers UE.
Drum bearing failure
A worn drive bearing lets the inner basket wobble, causing real imbalance and grinding noise during spin.
Loose or broken counterweight
The concrete counterweight bolts can loosen over time, throwing weight distribution off.
Uneven floor or unleveled feet
We always check this first — but if it's truly leveled and still erroring, it's a hardware fix.
Our Process
How we fix it
- 1
Run a calibration cycle and check the live vibration sensor readings
- 2
Test all 4 suspension rods for compression and return strength
- 3
Inspect the drum bearing, counterweight bolts, and shock mounts
- 4
Replace the failed suspension rods or sensor as a matched set
- 5
Recalibrate the washer and run a high-spin test load to confirm the fix
FAQ
Samsung UE / UB / Ur questions
Why does my Samsung washer say UE even with a small load?+
If a single shirt triggers UE, the suspension rods or vibration sensor are almost certainly the cause — not the load. The machine genuinely can't tell that it's balanced.
Should I replace one suspension rod or all four?+
All four, always. Samsung sells them as a kit for a reason — replacing one new rod against three worn ones throws the geometry off and the UE comes back within weeks.
Is this repair covered under Samsung warranty?+
Suspension rods are usually past the 1-year manufacturer warranty. If you have an AllState, Home Depot, or Costco extended warranty plan we work with all of them directly.
